I just returned (Dec 2002) from a trip to Mexico using this publication. This was my third trip with a Moon Handbook. I was not to happy with the one to Baja, I found the one for Costa Rica filled with inaccurate information but this one was the worst. I found the maps to be mostly useless, directions to places not very helpful, several recommendations absolutely pointless. Even though this book was published OCT 2001, MANY times I was left with the impression that the author NEVER was on-site or has not revisited since the first edition. This guidebook seemed unfocused, information arranged not practical, and descriptions are exaggerated and/or misleading. Case in point - the town of Playa Azul. The town is given almost 4 pages and a rather poetic description is used to make it sound like a pretty cool place. As it turns out the town itself is very run down, many houses are bad repair, most hotels are dirty hole-in-the-walls and the seafood palapa restaurants are in a shape that most travelers that are just a little worried about cleanliness s/would not eat there. Playa Azul is for Mexican budget travelers and offers nothing that could not be had any other place around there.Barra Vieja would be another example of where the book is off the mark. After reading Mr. Whipperman's description, I was not prepared to drive along a 4 line highway most of the way, past a very nice golf facility and all the construction that was going on there..... and this are just two of my grippes about this book.Despite the book, I had a great time. I saw a very beautiful side of Mexico. I would recommend a trip to Pacific Mexico to anyone. I am going back there in March. I will look for a travel guide I feel more aligned with and whose recommendation I can trust.

I used this book extensively this past summer for an epic driving trip into Mexico that took me almost to Manzanillo. I found the book extremely useful for discovering those off the beaten path sidetrips. I also used Fodor's but found this book a notch above in terms of helpful recomendations.Since the bulk of the 3+ weeks was spent in Puerto Vallarta(actually Mismaloya) the book proved to be a good guide for excursions into the surrounding states of Nayarit and Colima. For the most part the details given were accurate but with any travel book there are problems with current information as things are usually in flux in the tourist trade. I suppose that is why they can come out with new editions every year. Some of the information when missing can be a letdown, for example one day we went out for an adventure in the hopes of seeing the turtle rescue attempts in a not so nearby bay only to find out it was not exactly natures right time. There were other let downs such as the time we wet out to Mexicalitlan ," House of the Mexicans", where the ancient Aztecs/Mexica supposedly set out from Aztlan to establish Tenochitlan where the eagle would be found on top of a nopal devouring a snake. The description calls it a "scenic little island town." If you consider peering into the open doors of the living rooms of the locals I guess it was scenic! For my part I found it to be a waste of a drive. The museum was closed also which brings to a point one should consider whenever driving to a destination in Mexico. Do not arrive during the tradional siesta time or one will have to wait until 4 or 5 in the afternoon to enjoy the local musem etc! By contrast unexpected pleasant surprises can result by the books ommision of information as in the opportunity to see the hatching of baby crocodiles at the end of the jungle cruise on La Tovara near San Blas. All in all the guide is very, very useful to plan out a trip and see things and experience different parts of Mexican culture. The short histories, hotel recomendations, restaurant guides etc are pretty accurate and invaluable in planning a trip within a trip. There is diversity in recomendations for the earthy camper or the posh five star luxury hotel traveler. I would recommend this book for any traveler along the lovely Pacific Mexican trail.

Want my book? It is useless. This book is full of information, none of it practical. You can't find ANYTHING you are looking for in it. NO hostels are listed. They don't even highlight any of the amazing festivals that are held here in Mexico. Believe me, I am living here in Mexcio, and I am going to go buy the Lonely Planet. I wanted something more specific to my region, but this is NOT it. This book is written like the author took one pathway through the region, and wrote along the way. So unless you are following the exact same route, the information is SO useless.

I've been a Koontz fan ever since his early effort "The Haunted Earth" over 50 years ago. Most Koontz books get an automatic "5 Stars", but a few of his in the last 10 years or so are great writing, but the plots simply do not grab me. Even so, I downrate "Ricochet Joe" as a book simply because it is not a standalone story. As an introduction to a whole new epic saga, it is very good, but not satisfying by itself. "Odd Thomas" was of course a similar intro, but it could stand alone as a great story on its' own merit. His recent full-length novel about the Hawaiian girl showed a similar weakness, but viewed as the first entry of a new series, I loved it."Watchers" is, of course, my mandatory favorite. After that, my taste points to "Dark Rivers of the Heart". But when I'm simply looking for a relaxing fun read, "Tick Tock" is my go-to Koontz story. "Ricochet Joe" has strong echoes from "Tick Tock" in its' unmistakable Koontzian humor. For now, that is its' greatest strength - I absolutely LOVE it ! I have great hopes for a long series of sequels.

A pretentious and complex novella. It is entertaining for a moment and for a low cost it is ok. However, i did not like it. Let me explain. It is a book that tries to innovate with aspects such as the concept of time, evil, moral dillema and such. But it tries to deal with all of this in a novella format (or even short story) so it does not feels detailed and it is difficult to understand (some things have to be read twice to understand what happened). Hence the pretentious. It tries to grab more that what could be easily covered in that size. Hence the complex. But on the same time it feels simple, gullible, predictable and basic at some other times where pace is slow and uninteresting. It spends about 30 to 40% on a guy picking garbage with a weird experience and then having ice cream with some girl. quite slow. And then all of the supernatural stuff and action stuff is really packed in very fast. And time travel and stuff like that appears unexplained.If the books cost less than 2 bucks go ahead, it is not a bad read. More than that, it is not worth it.

I have been reading books by Dean Koontz for decades. I wasn't sure this book would be up to their standard. This book was amazing. I had to read it from start to finish in one sitting. Dean Koontz still has it, whatever it is. He can still make me feel like I am in the story. I still HAD to find out what happens next. I enjoyed this book so much, I am going to see if there are any other new books. Also, I am going to go back and read all the books from the past 20 to 30 years. SO COOL.

If you have not read The Silent Corner or Whispering Room, I suggest you do though it's not completely necessary. Art Bell had a fantastic interview with Dean Koontz on parallel universes and his own personal experiences with them. I wish it were still available as it would be the perfect supplement to understanding the story. Pardon the cryptic review, but the story is excellent and fascinating in its musing on time and space.

The novella called Ricochet Joe was my first experience with the “Kindle in Motion” format, and it was worth a look but also rather underwhelming. The story itself, of a young man who finds himself in the middle of an eons-spanning good-vs.-evil struggle, is the kind of supernatural tale Dean Koontz can probably write in his sleep. It is disappointing because it so sloppy-seeming in terms of plot and characters. (Though part of that is driven by the shorter Kindle Single format.). As for the Motion option, it is underused here, with only a few illustrations that don’t have all that Motion in them. They are still very good bits of comic art, and they DO add to the story’s impact, but that effect is too limited.

In today's age of free Kindle books, I rarely pay for a book anymore. Dean Koontz is one of the few exceptions. As always with something written by Koontz. you know it will be well-written, well-edited, and well-proofed.Dean Koontz, one this generation's finest writers, keeps the hits coming with a novel (pun intended) approach. This Kindle offering has one advantage over a print book, the "Kindle in Motion" process where the books animation truly comes alive. I don’t believe in reviewers giving a detailed synopsis of the book. I feel that is the job of the author to get people to read the book and it is the job of the reviewer to give an honest review. Since I do not like to give spoilers, in a way, I cannot say all that I would like to about Ricochet Joe.The story is different from most of Koontz' "Dark Suspense" but that does not detract from the master story-telling within the electronic pages. As we did with Odd Thomas, we come to empathize and care for our protagonists. The story is fast-paced and filled with so many twists, even The Beatles would shout.

`Ricochet Joe` was a somewhat entertaining short thriller read, but nothing too impressive. The theme is nothing original and it lacks some elements of plausibility, but the book isn't boring. As a free short book (~1.5 hours), I don't regret reading it, but it didn't make me want to explore more the author or the story.The storyline is a mix of fantasy and bildungsroman, playing upon themes like good vs. evil, quantum theory and parallel universes mixed with magic. While the story is decently complete in itself, due to it's shortness it barely touches upon it's themes; but the book could be the opening of a series. The subjects are a little too complex for such a short book.I borrowed this as Single Kindle and it also had the Audible narration (for free). The reading experience from my smartphone was fine, but the narrator voice and tone was borderline boring. I don't pay too much attention on Kindle Motion animations, but they were decently good quality.

This guide lives up to the standard set by other excellent Timber Press guides and describes a fairly comprehensive selection of wildflowers, more in one volume than any other regional guide I have seen. My only criticism is that some of the images are too widely shot to make out distinguishing characteristics of some species. It seems the authors / editors favored images portraying the majority of the total structure of the plants rather than just the flowers. Usually this works out well but sometimes doesn't portray the smaller features one would look for to identify a particular species with enough detail to be useful. A few entries do include a second image set in a subframe of the main image, but I guess like any other formatting decision compromises were decided for the sake of uniformity. All in all a clearly organized, sturdily constructed guide which describes many species other rocky mountain wildflower guides leave out, definitely recommended.

I bought the Kindle edition (and returned it). Lots of good background information here, and coverage is extensive -- there's plenty to help the amateur botanist. However, flower photos in the Kindle edition are not much bigger than thumbnail size, and image quality is awful if you try to enlarge them. Because of that, it's very difficult to use this book for flower identification.

This is the best wildflower reference book I have purchased. Very easy to find the right plant using their guides. Highly recommend!

I bought this book mainly to get a grasp on Einstein's feelings about education. The greatest mind of the modern age, pulling from personal experience as both a teacher and a student, lays down some very good ideas about what education should be about. I was also entertained by Einstein's global perspective, although I believe that the formation of a Utopian society is wishful thinking since there would still need to be a government of flawed human beings that were capable of corruption. Overall it is a great collection of letters and speeches by one of my favorite teachers, with the added bonus of his point of view on many things that plague our generation to this day. It is a very easy book to read and almost impossible to put down. The contents are infinitely better than the pseudo-intellectual bull-stuff that lay between the ears of many educators, scientists, and politicians of these perilous. I recommend this book to teachers, parents, scientists, politicians, and layman. Everyone can enjoy the simplicity of Einstein's arguments and thoughts.

By that I don't mean it in a bad way. His way of looking at life is definitely peculiar. But very interesting. Some of his writings I wasn't particularly interested in but it made for an interesting read when it comes to the rest of the book.I really liked his answer to the question "what is the meaning of life?""To know an answer to this question means to be religious.... The man who regards his own life and that of his fellow creatures as meaningless is not merely unhappy but hardly fit for life."Way to go buddy. I like you.

The ideas and opinions cover a very wide range of topics. Einstein comes across not only as an intellectual but also as a humanist and idealist. He lavishes the highest praises on Newton and Gandhi.

I prefer non-fiction books to fiction and it was eye-opening to read the opinions from one of the greatest minds of the last century on topics that were not related to his area of expertise (theoretical physics, AKA the original Sheldon Cooper). I recommend everyone put this book on their reading bucket list.This is one of those books that took a while to read because every sentence was read multiple times and then pondered over for a few seconds/minutes until moving to the next idea. Einstein had an amazing ability to cut past the BS and apply plain logic to whatever issue he was addressing. He was a genius in all aspects of life and more people should try to achieve the intellectual freedom he had. His writings have definitely re-opened that inquisitive, knowledge-yearning part of my brain that has been dormant for a few years.Some of the sentence structure was hard to read, I found myself reading and re-reading the passages in the first 30 pages until I my brain got used to Einstein's writing rhythm. Its either a language barrier, since English was not Einstein's first language (I think), or his grammar and sentence structure is so perfect that his writing looks weird to a 21st century reader. The YOLO generation might experience a brain bleed from Einsten's esoteric writing.

A delightful look into the mind of one of our times most profound geniuses. Shows a side of Einstein few knew about. A very insightful and compassionate man. The theory and equation explanations are surprisingly easy to follow as well. I definitely recommend this book.

This is excellent and I think it cost very little for the Kindle app. This man had a very beautiful way of expressing himself and a wonderful philosophy. He's very easy to understand. Einstein does not need anyone to explain Einstein. He does that so a child can understand.

This book is well researched, and very informative. But... what the author reveals is shocking and sad. I described to my college attending neice what Ms Wade said she found on campus, and she confirmed it in detail.This is a must-read for counselors and mental health professionals who work with teens and college kids. And if you have kids attending college now... this may scare you into bringing them home. A very important book indeed.

This text is an excellent examination of sexual culture on college campuses. Wade's voice is clear, accessible, and still maintains its basis in research-based knowledge. Wade manages to point out the downsides of hookup culture while still avoiding a tone of panic. Moreover, she acknowledges the "fun" of college life and sexual freedom (or at least, the potential for fun) that comes with it. The voices of students are always at the forefront of this text, as Wade uses their own language and stories to describe hookup culture and its relationship to students' lives. I would unequivocally recommend this as a text for First Year Seminar or similar classes, and similarly recommend it to anyone about to attend college.

This book was terrible! The author dosent seems to have an opinion on what shes researching, only talked to college students at universities, jumped around too much

This helped me look up and craft performance goals that pleased The Boss, so yay? It's really just a reference guide. As this is the 3rd edition of Blue Books, that tells you that people into pool cues have been buying them, with good reason.First off, the author, Brad Simpson, has been adding more and more info into each new edition, the 1st ed.(1996) had 465 pages, the 2nd, (1999) 600 pages, and this 3rd edition,(2005), a whopping 913.The number of color photos's showing the work of the more well known cuemakers, past and present, living and dead, has also increased with each new edition and, IMO, is the best feature of these books.The 3rd edition has a fairly extensive listing of cuemakers and a brief business bio of them. Their current cue offerings, as well as their older and one of a kind cues is provided. The pricing guidelines should be regarded in the most general of terms, as so much goes into the value of a pool cue.If your a collector or just someone looking to spend a few hundred dollars on a nice cue to play with, The Blue Book of Pool Cues, 3rd Ed., can provide both useful information and enjoyment at a reasonable cost.

This is a MUST HAVE for anyone that is either a cue stick collector or even in the market to purchase a higher end cue for themselves. It gives the prices for all common cues, many uncommon cues and a few that you wouldn't believe they'd have. I have been buying and selling on Ebay to try to find the right cue for me. I've already bought and sold enough cue sticks, making a profit each time, to have bought this book 8 times....And that isn't even my goal! Knowledge is power and this book gives you the knowledge that you'll need to be secure in buying and/or selling pool cue(s) on EBay or at the pool hall. It is also a nice coffee table book due to the hundreds of beautiful styled pool cues many of which are unique pieces of art. As for art, its not even a stretch, form and function meet in the seediest places sometimes and the pool hall is one of them.

I wouldn't say this is a bad book, only that you need to know what you are getting to be sure it's what you want. If you just want a laundry list of pool cue makers and price lists, this is the way to go. If you want to learn anything about cuemaking or really get deeper into the art of custom cues, it's not. Unfortunately, I wanted the latter.So what am I saying? I'm saying that the book is obviously extensively researched. However, it's presented very dryly. The black and white cue photos all look more or less the same. The descriptions for each cuemaker of how they got into cuemaking all read pretty much the same: "Blah blah, got into pool at an early age, blah blah always liked to work with wood, blah blah, started fixing my own cues, first by putting tips on them, etc."I guess my biggest complaint is that there is little or nothing to really help you decide between these guys to determine who you would want to buy a cue from. I'm a player not a cue collector, so I'm interested in playing characteristics. There is next to no info of that type in this book.So, again, bottom line is that it's mostly just a reference book of prices. If you want something more than that, don't get it.

Though it's dated, it gives you a ballpark some idea of value of a cue you may know nothing about. It still works well to help ID cues and cue makers, which is what I use it for.

Very comprehensive collection of information on cue values. There are models from certain manufacturers that aren't included, but this book should get you close to the value by looking at similar models that are shown.

For anyone who collects pool cues of appreciates the artistic side of wood working and pool and billiards history then this massive 900+ pages book is a must have. This 3rd edition is completely different from the 2nd edition with new color photos and black and white illustrations. Out of print now but even on the used book market I recommend it.
