This is a lovely packaged/presented collection of timeless children stories that I purchased for my niece. I'm sort of the poor, loser uncle so I hope she remembers I bought her something nice.

I absolutely love the quality of this book, it is well done, absolutely beautiful, amazing collection of these classic books! So excited to have them, read them and share them with others! It show cases her art and stories perfectly! I will include pictures, also if anyone likes history, I recommend listening to The History Chicks podcast on the life of Beatrix Potter, knowing about her life, her talent in art, and her love for animals among other things adds so much depth to these stories! I am not even kidding! The podcast isn't boring at all it's funny and interesting and made me love these stories all the more! Excited to have this beautiful edition to pass down to my children, and for a good price! Arrived on time as well, brand new, no damage!! Extremely Happy!!

For Beatrix Potter lovers, this book is a must. It has all the stories, with excellent reproductions of her original illustrations. There also are little prefaces that tell something about each particular stories publication. The quality of the paper, binding, etc. is first class.I read these stories to my children when they were little and look forward to reading them to my little grandson when he is old enough.

This is a beautiful series but had no number 7 and two number 11's. It was a gift to a grandchild shipped overseas so it was too difficult to return it.

We always borrow the single-book version from the library. They're in high demand so I decided to buy the full version. I was fully aware of the difference in format, but I was still a bit dismayed. The trouble is the suspense is gone with this format. Your kids will keep looking to the other pics further on in the story. I suggest you get this only after you've read many, or all, of the books, and just want to re-read for the pleasure of it. Or if (like me) you can't afford the boxed version yet. I do plan on getting the boxed set as a holiday present later this year. But I wanted to get this now. My kids are always asking to read their favorite stories. And I use this as a handy reference for homeschool copywork.

The Amazon Kindle version is miserable to read. The pictures are too small and the text is off with the pictures. Just buy this one in print.

If you're human you will love reading the quintessential children's stories by Beatrix Potter. In fact, if you are a grandparent you will love reading them even more. Every child should have her collection to save for their children. My grandchildren love this little library and believe it or not they take a book out then return it to its box. I think they are quite proud to own those 23 volumes of books exactly the right size for small hands. The art work is spectacular in this set. Let's face it children read not just for the story but the artwork too. I love all those little tales.

I was worried after reading some comments and reviews here on Amazon about these books, but the set I bought for my daughter is beautiful! We haven't made it through all of the books yet, but the ten we have read are perfect. Very detailed illustrations, perfect coloring, no fading or other issues that some people have had with these books. Very pleased.

I used to read these as a child and now that I have my own daughter i can't wait to read this to her. Beautiful book!

His essays have appeared in many literary journals and anthologies including New Letters, Fourth Genre, Brief Encounters: A Collection of Contemporary Nonfiction and The Touchstone Anthology of Contemporary Creative Nonfiction. He teaches in the MFA in Writing Programs at Virginia Commonwealth University and Vermont College of Fine Arts. A native New Mexican, he lives in Richmond with his wife and two children.

This is an honest and well-written volume, a true gift to the creative non-fiction genre. Fletcher's writing is vivid, lyrical, and revealing. What began as a graduate assignment for me quickly became a joyous read filled with laughter, sighs, a hand on my chin, my feet up on a desk. I highly recommend it -- this book deserves to be read.

I just reached the end of this book and am a bit sad about it. I miss his world already. I loved how so many natural objects were imbued with meaning. And I couldn't believe I was so charmed by such a domestic tale. I also loved how he captured that moment where you stop to listen to your parents' tales of ghosts, superstition, and meaning attached to objects (relics), even if you have to shake your head after hearing it to shake yourself back into what you doubted for a moment, but know is reality. I'm similar in age and I believe our parents were the last to experience the world imbued with such meaning in this way, at least here in the States. Although I can't bring myself to believe in ghosts, superstition, and relics, I have a love for that experience of life.I also loved how my interest as a reader was drawn by resting with stories and beauty versus pursuing desire or revenge. I believe one of the critics said it better: language, not suspense pulls the reader along.Fantastic book!

What a beautiful tribute to a remarkable writer's father. If you love unique approaches to writing, you will love the chances taken by Fletcher when he uses lists of words to evoke memories. Not just a memoir of father but of family and culture and feelings.I look forward to reading it again to find more wonders.

Harrison Fletcher weaves a delicate tapestry that enchants the reader with its beauty, heartache, and haunting poetic language. Each piece is a jewel that is part of a necklace that will astonish you with its honesty. I particularly enjoyed getting to know the author's colorful mother. And I was intrigued by the author's exploration of some significant dreams about his father. As an adoptee, I strongly identified with the search for the father whom the author barely knew; but anyone who has asked "Who am I?" will find resonance in these pages. Read "Descanso for My Father" slowly and savor the experience. I certainly did.

In a series of essays, the author follows the trail of his father. Since his father died while the author was quite young, this is a journey to "know" his father, which he hopes will shed some light on who the author is.Anyone who is on a journey of self discovery will certainly have some "aha!" moments while reading this book.

A writer wrote this, and a good one. The book is carefully crafted and delicately, beautifully detailed. I am a hound for a good story but this book gets you so caught up in the writing, you don't care what the author has to write about as long as he keeps doing it.

This fragmented style of writing is meant to be savored, the finely crafted phrases and images lingered upon, the spaces between sections and essays offering time to digest and reflect. Maybe I'll do that on my second and subsequent reads because I devoured the book, unable to wait to turn each page. While the basic facts of my life are quite different from the author's, his questing and questions echo some of my mine and I was eager to find out how he resolved or made peace with them.

Lovely memoir both in the multi cultural stance and from an object/ person scenario. There is a lot going on here.

It is not a portrayal of realistic violence in our society. The world was a less violent place back when theRoad Runner constantly trashed Wile E. Coyote, and perhaps the reason I found Creepy Susie to be so funny was that it breathed life back into the funny aspect of mortality.My favorites would have to be The Debbies (treat yourself here and use the "Look Inside" feature of Amazon to read The Debbies), Stupid Betsy, Waldo & Bean, Narcoleptic Scottie, Rosie's Crazy Mother, and Jenny, Jenny, Jenny & Babette: The Siamese Quadruplets.Whether snipping off tiny heads, shoving marbles in your butt, collecting Poo, holding slimy things, cross dressing, shaving cats and putting yellow sticky pads on them, offing your brother, or simply cooking up your parents; you will be sure to find humor not just in the written words but also in the comical and silly artwork here in Creepy Susie.I would give it 8 stars if I could. Enjoy!

I first learned about this book from my sister. It is one of my nephew's favorite books. I found it to be really funny in a warped way. If you like things like MST 3000, this is for you. It is just as funny as "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories " by Tim Burton I would not recommend it for the under 15 crowd. This is NOT suitable for elementary school.

No idea what happened to the show but this is my type of humor and found the book to be a good read and a good gift

This was not the biggest or blingy-est gift under the tree last year, but it turned out to be my daughter's absolute favorite. She worked through it constantly, and we eventually followed up with Hart's more advanced manga technique books. If you have a child who likes to draw and is interested in anime or manga, I can't think of a gift that will get more use.

I got this for my granddaughter's birthday when she turned 13. She said she liked it. She's had it for 3 months now and she uses it. I was happy to find this art book for her. It's just like they said in the description, it's for beginners. She loves drawing girls with large eyes.

This book is a good reference for starting down the road to manga drawing, with lots of big pictures and diagrams. The one thing lacking from this book is a really good facial-expressions chart. The author touches on it, and there is a section where they show how to "chibify" any manga character, which is helpful. Even more helpful would have been the inclusion of the facial expressions chart that he has in one or two of his other books on drawing manga. Other than that one error of omission, I think this book is a very good place to start if you really want to get into drawing chibi characters.

I like the book, I think it contains several really good lessons about Chibis and is very diverse. My only problem with the book is that with some of the drawings you can tell it's age. I think with manga drawing books its important to keep the drawings timeless so its more well rounded otherwise when the specific drawing style becomes obsolete (as it does over time) the book becomes obsolete as well. But since there were only a few times where I saw it, I'm still giving a high rating, this is a good purchase.

My daughter loves these Christopher Hart books. Now her dream is to learn Japanese and be a manga artist in Japan when she grows up! The books are well written with lots of pictures, examples and tips needed to get better at drawing this chibi style correctly. Chibi means small by the way. Chibis are smaller, cuter versions of a character. Take a villian, for example, draw them as a chibi and suddenly they are super cute instead of mean!

Bought this for my daughter who things Christopher Hart's products and books and drawings are the best. She loves it.

Awesome gift! I gave this to my daughter for her birthday she is 9, she loved all the details and pictures. I was also impressed with the step by step pictures they had for drawing the chibis. A great price for a big book too lol

The other half of the story, equally familiar, is about how the Internet is undermining the newspaper industry and, in the process, steadily replacing the world as we know it with a frighteningly unknown future.Alex Jones, a Pulitzer-Prize winning author, comes to these themes honestly as the scion of a small-town Tennessee newspaper family. It's no wonder he feels threatened.In all fairness, there is considerable reason for apprehension over the decline of America's major newspapers. Reflecting shrunken profits, repeated staff layoffs, closed news bureaus, and greater reliance on syndicated material, the nation's once-fat dailies are slimming down at a terrifying pace. In place of the papers' often earnest efforts at "objectivity," we are increasingly basing our views on the unedited diatribes to be found on the likes of Fox "News" and the daily blogosphere. The perils for democracy in America are obvious. For example, could the so-called "Tea Party" have thrived in a world largely dependent on newspapers for its information? Or is that sad testament to the profound ignorance of the American people a product of Fox News, talk radio, and organized Internet rumor-mongering? You won't be surprised to learn that there is no question in my mind that, despite its familiarity to the 19th-Century No-Nothing movement, I'm convinced the Tea Party is an artifact of the channels through which we now receive so much of our political information.Jones writes well, and my harsh criticism may not be entirely deserved. However, it comes from my nagging feeling as I read this book that its underlying theme is nostalgia, a craving for the day when so much of the news that appeared in the nation's dailies and on the air originated in the early edition of the Old Gray Lady, The New York Times. Jones outlines the death of real news exceptionally well. From his insider perspective he traces the forces and perssures that have given us, as my wife says, "fluff news" on the air and little of substance in our newspapers. Made me re-examine the papers I was receiving and how much actual news, as opposed to fluff about kittens rescued, personal interest stories, fluff pieces of all sorts, I was getting from my local papers. Result? I cancelled my subscriptions when I realized it was taking me ten minutes to read the Sunday paper because almost nothing in then was serious news. The effects and consequences of this are shown clearly - and they are not good.

Alex S. Jones draws to light what many of us already know... good reading thus far... Jones is objective as a mediator of the truth and candidly relates small-town newspaper takeovers as well as the larger circulators. He knows the history and shares it well. Hopefully more people take notice. Accountability news is beyond necessary in a democracy. Without it, we lose many of our freedoms and get robbed by those in public service and corporations. This is a must read book and Alex Jones shows why he has already been honored with one Pulitzer. Jones sums it up in the books closing sentences, "If the iron core should gradually rust away, American will have squandered part of their birthright. Surely we will not allow that to happen."

To Jones, it's this entertainment and opinion smoke screen....over and above hard objective news....that lies in jeopardy of depriving citizen's the right learn of the facts...hard, unpleasant, but true...as they often are. This is what he means, when he writes of "iron core" of the news.The one important caveat I have about his book is that I wish Jones had addressed, more thoroughly and carefully, the impact of the net....but his ethical perspective towards the news holds true no matter. The fact is that hard information, as had been unavoidable and intrinsic in old traditional media, is now also greatly expanded in the electronic media...but only for those who SEEK it.His thesis is that the public has not been well served in the traditional commercial media environment...which they actually own...is central to his thesis of continual ethical challenge to the bedrock of democracy...an informed citizenry. I recommend this book for anyone who wishes to understand just how fragile the First Amendment truly is. Jones's insistence that ethics, and objectivity, and accountability, need to find their way the the center of both our new, and old media world, to me is timelessly convincing....as is his faith that we must eventually rediscover the "iron core" of objective news, to balance the fire storm of too often uninformed personal opinion...or lose the most essential element of our American public discourse.It's a healthy thing to raise these questions...noting well that perfect objectivity is rarely, if ever possible...however, I agree with Jones, that it's worth the effort...and, that we can do a lot better than what we have today. For the general reader this book, is a good and fascinating intro into this ever evolving subject.
