Firstly, this is a book well worth the time to read. Although I have only given it three stars, that does not mean that it is not worth your time. In fact, I think it is fully worth anyone's time that has an interest in theology and/or postmodernism.The reason that I have given it 3 stars is because in the end, Taylor's text (not book!) is little more than an excursion into a/theological nihilism ("a/theological nihilism" is not at all redundant, as you will see upon finishing this book). It is fundamentally Nietzschean - and by extension arguably pagan - in its orientation and in its (proudly self-proclaimed) erring results.Taylor begins the book with an engagement with St. Augustine via Augustine's seminal work The Confessions. This first section of the book sets up the second section of the book, which is the postmodern de-construction of Augustine and Western Christianity's understanding of Truth. By emptying all discourse of God, Taylor notes (following Nietzsche) that texts lose their meaning and the self eventually loses its value and disappears. There is no meaning in a world without God; it is the job of the a/theologian to chart, then, the meaningless, purposeless, "erring" wanderings of an individual in a world without meaning. The second part a/concludes (so to write) with an attempt to find a way to navigate the chaotic sea of nihilism (the result of denying God) without its own results being nihilistic. Taylor, however, like Nietzsche, is left without any way out of the fundamentally nihilistic world that he advocates.Taylor roots contemporary nihilism in Christianity, specifically in its ideas of Scripture and the Incarnation. If God empties God's-self into the Logos ("logos" is the Greek word for "Word", specifically a word that is spoken with the intention of communicating something true; more immediately relevant to Taylor is St. John's usage of the word "logos" to refer to Christ as *the* Logos of God the Father) and the Logos is crucified - Taylor refers to this as a "radical Christology" - then it only follows, in Taylor's mind, that nihilism should be the result of this sort of theological claim.Naturally problematic is the absence of resurrection in Taylor's a/theology, but more glaring is his refusal to even question the assumptions made by Nietzsche and his various followers (particularly Barthes and Derrida). Taylor buys Nietzsche hook, line and sinker but selectively engages the Christian tradition; such a combination makes such a/theology possible.A more thorough engagement with Christianity - and with the Logos of Christianity - would give Taylor far less room to create his a/theology in. His exclusive focus on the *text* of Scripture, to the exclusion of ritual and rite - particularly as exemplified in the giving and partaking of the Eucharist - shows a Protestant bent that exists largely on the margin of the Christian tradition.If one removes the apophatic and iconic understanding of Scripture and instead focuses on it as a totality, then Taylor's work makes good sense and is a thorough and necessary critique; if there is no transcendence, one is indeed trapped within the text and bound to "err endlessly". Every text is bound to become a context of a context of a context (ad infinitum, ad nauseum) if the finite text is a totality.It makes far more sense though, when looking at Christianity, to see that Taylor's justifications for his a/theology are really the result of a rejection of Christianity and it Logos, rather than being the fruit of something inherent to Christianity itself. This is a book worth reading, but it is also worth critiquing. In the end, Taylor's book (inadvertently, I suspect) shows the need for an apophatic, iconic understanding of language and texts, not the need to dispose of these; Taylor shows the need for a real engagement and practice of a sacramental Christianity - one which has at its center participation in the Transcendent as the ground of its being. It is only then that discourse and meaning can be given and received; it is only then that nihilism - "the strangest of guests" (to quote Nietzsche) - is exiled to err endlessly in its own purposelessness.

The best series ever for young readers. It is very hard to find books for young readers that are based on the natural world. The photos are beautiful, the storyline is full of accurate, interesting, scientific facts about the creatures, and has a vocabulary building review at the back of the book. And each book in this series has several upside down jokes that reference the animal, an added point of interest for Montessori and all children. BTW, I have gotten more than 30 of these books for my classroom. Highly recommended!

We love all the "National Geographic" series, my kids are big fans! The only thing is that it's not accurate on the amount of bears that it says that exist.

I bought this for M2 year of med school. The information in the book is fairly complete, but I will still need to go to Goodman & Gilman's The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics to really put burning questions to rest. Also note, hopefully your school has a subscription to Access Medicine for both of these resources.My favorite book for pharm so far is Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology, 4th Edition (Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews Series). It has 90 percent of the information I need, including new drug classes. It is a little lean on the structures, which Lange covers pretty well. However, I used Illustrated Pharm for all of my antimicrobial information, and hope to use it the rest of M2 year.Also, don't be scared of Goodman, it's a beast of a tomb but that is because it would be like having you own personal professor describe in detail the mechanism of every drug used for treatment. I cant tell you how many times I thought it was leaving me hanging on an explanation, only to find my questions addressed 3-4 sentences later. Well written and complete, but there is just a lot of stuff to learn about every drug!

Completely unreadable without a background in Pharmacology. Goes into more detail than other texts but explains things horribly. Organization makes no sense and it just lists drugs in a completely random illogical way. It's like someone just dumped their vast knowledge of drugs down on paper and called it a day. If you already know everything then this book has tons of information. For those learning Pharmacology, this won't teach you as well as the other resources out there.If you're in medical school steer clear.I prefer Lippincott's Pharm or the purple review book by Katzung (same author but written better although lacking minutiae)For pharm I use picmonics to memorize, Lippincott's to understand, the purple review book to learn more details and quiz myself, Lange flashcards to quiz myself, Kaplan videos are good if all else fails.For time management purposes steer clear of this book if you're in medical school unless you have a solid Pharmacology background

While the cover is very pretty, and there are some good diagrams found within this text, overall, I would have to say that I really do not like this text. There is simply not enough substance, and the layout of the drugs and concepts within the chapters is a nightmare. I also very much dislike it when the editors re-arrange the chapters between editions--which to me is evidence of them having nothing else better to do. Also, some of the errors simply drive me crazy.Find a different primary text... but perhaps use the Katzung review book, I find the multiple choice with explanations, and review points to be very useful. But again, it is simply that, a review book.If you are looking for a good primary reference text, check out Goodman and Gilman, because Katzung is definitely not worth the money.

I own the Goodman & Gilman and Katzung textbooks, but I mostly read out of this one. Let me say, Goodman & Gilman is top notch, if something's not in there, it's probably only on Pubmed, but my god, it's so flipping long. I've barely used it because of that, I wish I could sit down and have a few days to really get into the G&G, but there will never be the time. Katzung is by no means brief, it's a long textbook, this is no pocket companion, but it gets the point across a lot quicker. It's clear, it's current, it has what's important, and a little bit more. For any pharmacology class I'm sure Katzung would be an adequate choice, it has some great diagrams and at the end of the chapters there's tables with drugs and their presentations, and just a little brief overview of all of them (SO USEFUL!).

I have read the first several chapters of this book and I have to say the pictures are very nice, colorful and easy to understand. My complaint about this book is that there are no review questions either before or after each chapter. I like testing myself to see if I captured the take home message of each chapter and sadly this book does not have review questions before/after the chapters. There are a few case studies however; they do add to the content of the select chapters that there are case studies. Overall, the book is fine, if you like review questions like me, then choose another book.

Written by Dr's.. so a bit overwhelming to understand but the illustrations help me with my clas. I also have Lehne Pharmacology book and that one is more user friendly.

Perfect book to go alongside with starting pharmacy school. My only recommendation is to put in the extra money to get a hardcover version rather than the softcover because the softcover version gets beat up very easily and for it to last through 4 years of schooling, it will need to be taken care of very properly

A required book for my medical school. I couldn't connect with it. Pharm for me is best learned with some flashcards and your favorite pathology textbook to make relevant clinical connections. This book feels like its trying to do all that at the same time and it just got confusing for me.

Empaths especially will benefit from the author's discussion of "intuitive footprints" that enable one to determine if the sudden change of mood springs from within or via an empathic resonance with somebody else.

This is a book on intuition unlike any I have never read before. It explains how to locate the areas on your physical body that tell you how to confirm your intuitions. It also explains how to develop this intuition. Very interesting read.

I understand a lot of heart and passion went into the writing of this book---so thank you for that, Nora. However, I almost put the book down after the first chapter because of so much attention to "religious" references: God, The Lord, Demons, Devil, etc. I am spiritual, but not religious. I believe a book on intuition can be written without religious doctrine (Spirit, yes. Religious dogma, no.) Also, the convention and usage errors were a major distraction. I suggest that the author employ an editor to comb the book for such errors. There were MANY. Another thing that made me question the credibility of the author: she indicated she had worked with Edgar Cayce's A.R.E. for years. She called it, "The Association OF Research and Enlightenment." The OF should be replaced with FOR. These may seem petty, but they are enough to make me question professional credibility. And again, these errors and references to religion were highly distracting in a book that promotes focus.

I found this book to be dark and not very realistic. Some points are reasonable but most are not worth reading. Also, the book has a very “you must do it exactly this way or else you can kiss any results goodbye” approach. This approach completely dishonors inviduals innate wisdom and inherent inner guidance. Truly an awful book. Don’t bother.

Tuning into your intuition is much easier than this, meditation will get you there faster, if you trust yourself.

The Science of Intuition is for everyone who wants to tap into their intuitive side of self. What I love about this book is that it is very understandable and broken down well for the average person without the author's background to readily access. Nora Truscello takes the reader step-by-step through her process to access our intuition. A great read!

Important to note that the book continually references an online accompanying website, I guess you are to get access to as a student. If reading for general knowledge this can be slightly frustrating not being able to see docs that are referenced in the text.

Having been lucky enough to have been a student of one of Professor Smirniotopoulos’ real estate classes at George Mason University, I can tell you from experience that his sense of scale, community, and his Development Process of Building clearly defines not just how buildings are built, but how and why they are lived in. The priceless information found in "Real Estate Law" will not be found in a normal real estate text book. Most text books just give you a lot of facts about zoning regulations and the legalities of building. Peter Smirniptopoulous makes buildings and the communities in which they are placed, come alive. His depth of knowledge and historical information is formidable and his experience as a community builder nicely compliments the information in this text book. I highly recommend this book as a resource not just for students, but for contractors and community builders alike.

Probably the best book on prayer I have read and I have a lot in my library - Dutch Sheets, Ignatius Brianchaninov, E. M. Bounds, Philokalia, Derek Prince, and various other authors on prayer along with internet online information. This book is definitely for today's Christian. While this book can be read in one or two settings I chose rather to read at local restaurant's over breakfast absorbing a few pages during each breakfast; so it took me more than a month to finish which allowed her written material to sink into my soul with thoughts prompted by the Holy Spirit for integration and emphasis. A wonderful addition to my library.

Margaret Guenther's *The Practice of Prayer* introduces the larger concept and practices of prayer with five pages devoted to discussion questions and exercises. For the most part, she covers various historical practices in one chapter. A good, homespun book on the practice of prayer. Margaret Guenther reminds us that prayer comes in many forms and can be practiced in many ways. From a complex rosary, novena or praying the hours in monastic style to centering prayer, to just an utterance of the Jesus prayer, or maybe a forelorn cry of "help", any time we communicate with God, it is a prayer. The book also discusses retreats, confession, intercessory prayer, group and communal prayer and worship, as well as other uniquely Christian elements of prayer and the mystical experience. She removes the fear of not praying "right", and instead gives practical ways to infuse prayer into a busy life. A good book, a good read, and one that will resonate with most busy people.

Read this in preparation for an 8-week series on prayer at my church. A very good resource, and well-written. A couple of chapters were a little dry, but the majority provide good reading and excellent material to promote group discussion. In combination with this book, we are also reading from Richard Foster's "Prayer: Finding the Heart's True Home" which is an excellent book for personal use.

One of the few books I've seen on Amazon with a full 5 star review and I totally concur. I received so much inspiration and insight in Ms. Guenther's previous books that I wanted to read The Practice of Prayer. I am so very grateful that I did.
